Sedice is a non-profit, community-rooted organization based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, dedicated to preserving and celebrating the Spanish language and the rich cultural traditions of the Hispanic world. We believe that language is more than communication—it’s a bridge to identity, belonging, and community.
Sedice was created to offer a welcoming space where individuals can learn Spanish or reconnect with their heritage. As the Spanish-speaking population continues to grow across Atlantic Canada, we recognized the importance of supporting heritage speakers—while also inviting anyone eager to learn Spanish, explore the rich cultures, histories, and voices of the Spanish-speaking world. Whether you're rediscovering your roots or just beginning your journey with the language, Sedice is a place where you'll feel welcomed, supported, and inspired.
Our school is the result of a powerful collaboration between educators from Dalhousie, Mount Saint Vincent, and Saint Mary’s Universities, passionate volunteers, and community partners like the Latispánica Cultural Association. Led by a volunteer board and supported by local institutions, Sedice blends academic excellence with strong community engagement. Our instructors combine professional expertise with lived cultural experience, offering a learning environment grounded in care, authenticity, and connection.
We offer programs for children, teens, and adults, based in the action-oriented approach of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Our communicative, task-based methodology fosters real-world language use and intercultural understanding from the very beginning.
Sedice is more than a school—it's a vibrant, intergenerational community. A place to learn, grow, share, and celebrate together.
Our mission is to foster a nurturing environment where the Spanish language and its vibrant cultures are celebrated and preserved.
